0 notes Firefox 3.5 is the fastest Firefox ever*

Firefox is claiming that 3.5 is the fastest Firefox ever. At first I was ready to rain fire on mozilla for their obsurd claims, but apparently there is an asterisk. Firefox 3.5 has the fastest javascript engine in firefox ever. oh thanks! javascript!

I remember in the old days when Firefox was the fastest browser on the market. And kids would laugh at me for using such a silly browser. Dang kids always on my lawn.

And now firefox is a huge slow beast. Firefox takes longer to startup on my windows box then windows itself. It’s also painfully slow on my macbook, but my macbook is old and decrepit anyway.

Am I shilling for Chrome? No. Of course not. I still use Firefox despite the startup pains. After it starts up and after I warm up the history cache, it performs well. But if I get paged and I need to use my computer immediately, I can’t sit there and wait. I’ll start up chromium (now chrome) and get to work.

Chrome is close. As one of those weirdos who actually uses windows(home), osx(laptop), and linux(work) daily, I like having a consistant browsing experience on each of my boxes. Chrome isn’t there yet. Firefox has been there for a while. And the developer tools on Firefox are still the best in show.

Firefox is still my pick. But Chrome is signing the best free agents and drafting the biggest stars. Firefox 3.5 may be the best firefox ever, but it’s quickly losing ground on being the best browser ever.
